Assumpta est Maria in caelum!

The Angels are rejoicing; praising they bless the Lord.

Just a quick note to wish you all a Happy Feast Day of the Assumption!!!

The Benedictine Monastic Diurnal aptly and movingly applies to Our Lady the words in Judith, chapter 13, 22-23:

‘The Lord hath blessed thee with His power, because by thee He hath brought our enemies to nought. Blessed art thou, O daughter, by the Lord the most high God, above all women upon the earth.’

Too often, people tend to forget that Our Lady is not only ‘beautiful and comely’ but also ‘terrible as an army set in array’. The power granted her by God through grace is greater by far than that of any creature. It is never in competition with the glory and power of God, but always and forever her soul ‘doth magnify the Lord’.

We could also do well to make the words of the collect our own:

‘Almighty and everlasting God, who hast taken up the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Mother of thy Son, with body and soul into heavenly glory, grant, we beseech Thee, that we always be intent on higher things and thus deserve to become partakers of her glory. Through the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord, Who with Thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.’

  1. Amen.

Happy Feast Day of the Assumption to you too!
